Asiedu Nketia calls for international media coverage of election petition case | Politics

General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Asiedu Nketia has called for international media coverage of the historic election petition hearing by the Supreme Court. This he said is to enable Ghanaians living outside the country to be reliably informed about the Court proceedings.

He spoke to the media shortly after the Supreme Court had adjourned proceedings to Wednesday.

The General Secretary noted he was happy “that the Court has now taken a decision to reverse their earlier decision [not] to allow television coverage”.

He however noted it was important to go beyond national coverage by local Television Stations to include an international audience.

“We are insisting that other television stations from outside Ghana; CNN Al-Jazeera and BBC to come on board so that proceedings can be telecast live for our citizens outside Ghana” he emphasised.

In reaction to a demonstration organised by some Ghanaians in the United Kingdom, he said “we take notice that some citizens of Ghana have been misled to embark on demonstration in Europe and America”.

The General Secretary believed that live telecast of the Supreme Court proceedings by international media will help correct misconceptions some Ghanaians outside the country hold.

I will abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling – Mahama

President John Mahama has assured the nation that he will accept whatever verdict the Supreme Court issues with regards to the Presidential Election Petition currently before it.

He made the announcement on Tuesday during a meeting with the Eastern Region House of Chiefs at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House.

Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipanin, President of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs, called on all parties to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict.

He also appealed to political party leaders to call their supporters to order and to restrain them from insulting their political opponents.

Joy News’ Presidential correspondent, Seth Kwame Boateng, reported the President as saying that he will abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court and pledging to rein in party supporters who insult the opposition New Patriotic Party.

He challenged the chiefs and other stakeholders to name and shame party leaders who subject their opponents, including himself, to needless insults.
The President will also be meeting with the chiefs of the Northern Region.

Following the siege of Citi FM‘s offices by several muscled men on Saturday November 24th in an attempt to “deal with” lawyer Egbert Faibille, several political parties have voiced their objection to the act.

According to the parties, the action was wrong and should be condemned.

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey told Citi News that Hassan Ayariga’s actions were indicative of his double standards on issues of peace.

“It should be expounded of the hypocrisy of Mr. Hassan Ayariga in that he should be the one who is loudest in advocating peace.” Read more…

ANTHONY ABAYIFAA KARBO REACTS TO LATEST NDC AUDIO CONCOCTION…..IT IS NOT ME.

My attention has been drawn to an audio tape generated and is currently being circulated by a pro-NDC group, Research and Advocacy Platform, in which a voice planning chaos and mayhem in the run-up to the December general election is being attributed to me.

I would like to take this opportunity to expressly state that although the voice on the tape sounds like mine; it is not me. This is a complete fabrication and concoction. I have not had any meeting with a person or group of persons where the agenda of that meeting is to destabilize this country. I challenge the group to confirm where this meeting was held, who were the people in the meeting and what the agenda was. Read more…
