GHANAIAN RESIDENTS IN THE UK PETITION FOR EXPEDITIOUS PROCESS ON THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CHALLENGE AT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA

CONCERNED GHANAIANS AGAINST ELECTORAL FRAUD (COGEF) UK

12th April, 2013.

THE HIGH COMMISSIONER

GHANA HIGH COMMISSION

13 BELGRAVE SQUARE

LONDON SW1X 8PS

Dear Sir,

GHANAIAN RESIDENTS IN THE UK PETITION FOR EXPEDITIOUS PROCESS ON THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CHALLENGE AT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA

Preamble:
We the Ghanaian community in United Kingdom are hereby petitioning your good office to bring to bear your influence on the relevant stakeholders in Ghana, especially the Supreme Court and the government, in relation to December 2012 election dispute petition under consideration at the Supreme Court. The petition has been subjected to numerous deliberate delays by the three respondents, the Electoral Commission, Mr John Dramani Mahama (President declared) and the NDC party, making our Superior Court of Judicature looks tottering and causing undue political tension in the country.

Although a date for the commencement of the substantive trail has now been set for 16th April 2013, the delays in court leading up to this latest stage gives us real cause for concern. It is our fear that the Supreme Court may further entertain deliberate delay tactics from all or any of the Respondents when the case commences in a cynical bid to deny the ultimate winner of the case, Nana Akufo Addo, his just deserts in a timely order. This fear is shared with our fellow party followers in Ghana. This situation, coupled with the current dire socio-economic conditions in Ghana where citizens are going without very basic necessities like water, gas and electricity, is causing unhealthy tension in the country. Consequently, we Ghanaians in the UK are becoming increasingly concerned about the possible direction of the country if nothing is done to arrest things. Read more…

Over-voting alone will collapse Mahama’s presidency – NPP

The petitioners in the Supreme Court case challenging the results of the 2012 Presidential elections have stated that if over-voting was the only violation they complained about in the election petition, then the annulment of such votes will be enough to bring down the Presidency of John Dramani Mahama.

According to Paragraph 73 of the main affidavit of the petitioners, if the over-votes in 2,065 polling stations “were annulled as required by law, the 1st Respondent, John Dramani Mahama, would have 49.1% of the valid votes cast, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would have 49.3% of the valid votes cast.”

Widespread instances of over-voting, as stated in the main affidavit, were found in polling stations “where (a) votes cast exceeded the total number of registered voters or (b) votes exceeded the total number of ballot papers issued to voters on voting day in violation of Article 42 of the Constitution and Regulation 24 (1) of C. I. 75.”

In affirming the cancellation of such votes, as contained in Regulation 24 (1) of C. I. 75, the Chairman of Electoral Commission, prior to the December 2012 elections, emphasised to the general public that any polling station where over-voting occurred would have its results annulled. Read more…

More NDC delay tactics exposed … 9 separate joinder applications filed at Supreme Court – The New Statesman Online

The New Statesman is reliably informed that the ruling National Democratic Congress, in light of the overwhelming evidence showing the rigging of the 2012 election for John Mahama, has filed 9 separate joinder applications at the Supreme Court to be joined in the case challenging the validity of the December 2012 elections.

The ruling National Democratic Congress administration, the New Statesman can confirm has tasked its constituency executives across the country to get its supporters, through the use of cash inducements, to agree to have their names and signatures placed on joinder applications to be sent to the Supreme Court.

The filing of the 9 applications for joinders was done yesterday at the Registry of the Supreme Court and has been described as being part of the grand scheme by the NDC to delay the case being heard at the Supreme Court. Read more…

Following the siege of Citi FM‘s offices by several muscled men on Saturday November 24th in an attempt to “deal with” lawyer Egbert Faibille, several political parties have voiced their objection to the act.

According to the parties, the action was wrong and should be condemned.

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey told Citi News that Hassan Ayariga’s actions were indicative of his double standards on issues of peace.

“It should be expounded of the hypocrisy of Mr. Hassan Ayariga in that he should be the one who is loudest in advocating peace.” Read more…
