Bawumia has what it takes to be a running-mate – Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe
Barely two weeks after the New Patriotic Party went to congress to elect Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo as their
flagbearer for the 2102 Elections, word about who gets to partner him as running mate have started making rounds.
Already, the dynamics of who gets to partner Nana Addo has taken centre stage within the party. Just like previous situations, the thorny but all important issue of which part of the country the right man or woman should come from to qualify for the position, has started playing out.
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who describes himself as partly a body of the Nana Addo campaign believes that the former Deputy Bank of Ghana boss, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will be the appropriate person to partner Nana Addo. Read more …

I believe its too early to commence the debate as to who should partner Nana in 2012…..there are loads of factors to consider when doing this exercise.what we should be doing now is building the structures at the polling stations and constituencies. We,d cross that bridge when we reach it.
“If we do something the same way, the same method, same people all the time, and expect different results, it doesn’t happen” – Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boakye.
There is no doubt about Bawumia’s capabilities!!! This issue is about ELECTIONS and every vote counts!!! We need charismatic people who can garner votes, drive and attract the floating voters……From my view, Bawumia is a strategist, not a dynamic campaigner. We should assign him to do intelligent underground work in searching and finding the best candidate for running mate slot. I am sure he knows so other people of his caliber who are more dynamic!!!
We can hide our heads in the sand and pretend as though people will not be speculating as to who the running mate of Nana Akufo-Addo is going to be. Of course, after a pulsation leadership contest like the recent one of the NPP, naturally any political analyst or even people with any remote political interest will tend to focus on who his running mate mate is going to be. That is unless you want to play he ostrich. Lets get real.
This old-age NPP argument of a timetable to announcing a running mate is meaningless and puerile will not stop the speculation. At best, it is just passing the buck and nothing else. I remember, the last time round, the then Chairman, MacManu even threatened sanctions for any such speculations by party members. I thought he was going to get rid of half of our party membership if he carries out his futile and meaningless threat. He ended up ridiculing himself. It appears we are going down the same path. Classic NPP!!!!
My question to Dodzi and his ilk will simply to find out if the NPP is capable of multi-tasking? We cannot be seen doing only one thing at a time. Life dove-tails and these issues are not a variance or an antithesis to each other. What has building of structures got to do with Nana coming out tomorrow to announce that Ato Essuman, Bawumia, Joe Ghartey, Ambrose Derry, Ayorkor Bothway, Dan Botwe is his running mate? The strucures will immediately collapse? I just don’t get it.
In any case, when people talk of crossing bridges when we get there, where is the plan or time-table? In Agyarko’s head? Let us, at the very least know the milestones so we know by December 12 2010 or 2011, the running mate will be announced. Else this becomes just arrogance and power politics and nothing else. And it is unhelpful if we want to win political power.
Though the NPP constitution appear to leave the running mate question to the candidate, it is important to note that we are all stakeholders in the party and have the right to, at least, speculate as to who Nana’s running mate is going to be.
I believe some people know or have a good idea as to who the running mate is going to be and so are not too bothered in having a debate. Leave us those who are not privy to such information to, at least speculate, so we can be happy in getting it right or shocked at being so wide off the mark when the Boakye-Agyakos care to tell us who the running mate is at their own time.
I agree with Marlon. As the saying goes, huhuhuhu 3ni two man 3na 3gu Busia aban! How do we as a party benefit from this process being dragged on further. I speculate for I am at liberty to and I say anyone who is taller than Nana Addo should count him or herself out. It will be a pr disaster!
And by the way, I think the running mate should not necessarily be a northerner or Moslem this time. It should be time for the party to try a person from any of the swing regions – western, central or greater accra.
the point is whether a northener or southener the person must be somebody who can partner nana and bring in the much needed votes. frankly i donot see dr bawumia doing that.
For continuity sake I think we need to maintain him before our friends on the other side starts raising their cheap propaganda that we dropped him because he’s not an Akan or something else.
