RECKLESS EXPENDITURE AS THINGS FALL APART

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, good morning and welcome to another session of interaction with the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG). Once again, in another challenging period of our lives as Ghanaians, we are faced with the harsh economic results of massive corruption, weak leadership and poor economic management. In this regard, and more than ever before, the masses of our people are confronted with the severe problem of high food prices, fuel cost and pending increases in the prices of utilities and allied expenditures.

Fellow Ghanaians, over the past 4 years, our cumulative debt stock since independence has increased well over 300% but with no value for money to the Ghanaian. The excuse by the president that, majority of such expenditure landed in the pockets of formal sector workers as a result of the introduction of the single spine salary structure is absolutely untenable in the face of high public expenditure due to ghost judgment debt payments, massive patronage, inflated cost of contracts, massive corruption allegations against government appointees, and a flamboyant campaign by the NDC.

Ladies & gentlemen of the press, the old notion by government that, the citizen will pay for their wasteful expenditures through the imposition of huge taxes is no longer true. There is therefore, the need for a positive action against government with respect to mass civil actions to press home our resolve that, the consequence of government’s mismanagement and poor leadership cannot be charged the Ghanaian. NPP APPEALS TO GMA ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF EMERGENCY SERVICES

The New Patriotic Party has taken note of the ongoing strike action by members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and their recent threat to suspend emergency services at the hospitals with effect from 15th April 2013.

We would like to appeal to the GMA to reconsider their threat to withdraw emergency services in the interest of the nation.

We take this opportunity to call on the government to demonstrate, urgently, leadership with regards to the settlement of the grievances of the doctors since this affects all Ghanaians.

…Signed…………..

Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie
(General Secretary)

LMVCA CALLS ON PRESIDENT MAHAMA TO PROBE A-G’S DECISION TO FREE SAVELUGU PINK SHEET SUSPECTS

It has come to our attention that the Attorney General has concluded that the three Electoral Commission officials who confessed to the Northern Regional police to tampering with pink sheets have no case to answer.

We demand to know and, the people of Ghana have a right to know, how the Attorney-General came to this perverse conclusion of directing that no charges must be brought against the Deputy Northern Regional Director of the EC, Godfrey Okeley, Akumani Benjamin Akanda, the Savelugu-Nanton District Electoral Officer and Salamatu Osman, a purported National Service personnel of the EC in Savelugu.

The three were arrested, through the vigilance of ordinary citizens, for allegedly gathering presiding officers to sign to validate results declaration forms (pink sheets) two months after the December 2012 elections. Incidentally, this omission forms part of the case currently before the Supreme Court, challenging the results of the presidential election. Read more…

THE NHIS HUSSLE: ANOTHER BETRAYAL OF THE PEOPLE BY THE NDC GOVERNMENT

The last one week has seen the most bizarre situation regarding provision of healthcare through National Health Insurance.

Last week, health institutions under the Christian Health Association expressed their frustration over payments for their services through the health insurance scheme. The Christian Health providers, like the other health providers, have not been reimbursed for their services in the last six months.

Last week, they threatened to withdraw services from Health Insurance Card holders. The Minister of Health then rushed with a promise, to pay them today, Monday 11th March. Today Monday, there has been no payment and the Christian Health Centres have had to withdraw their services to poor health insurance card holders.

This has resulted in misery, dejection and pain for thousands of poor sick Ghanaians across the 180 Christian Health Centres in the country. This needless suffering of the people is the direct result of the kind of governance that the NDC has subjected the country to. Read more…

BEYOND THE SUPREME COURT – A Display of True Democracy

Nana Akufo-Addo

‘  Mo mma yen  mbo  n’ aba so !’

Intro: – My name is Kwasi Agyeman Busia

Members of the media, invited guests we are grateful to see you all here covering this event. I consider it a great honour and a privilege to be addressing this press conference. I come to this press event today first as a citizen of this country and secondly as one deeply interested in our democratic growth as a people.  The very fact that I have an opportunity to be addressing the media today, unknown to national politics but nonetheless a concerned citizen should speak volumes for our democratic growth. I, not unlike others have spent the last several years observing and contributing in varied ways from afar the course and growth of our democracy. In the last few months I have had the opportunity to be here at home in Ghana to participate in the 2012 elections and now like many of you a concerned citizen keenly interested in the unfolding story of what really transpired in the  2012 elections. With all the focus on the Supreme Court and the discussions and debates (not to mention the spin machines at optimal speed), it is not uncommon to lose sight of the commendable work done in the area of ensuring peace and protecting our democracy by some of the key players in this test of our electoral process and to a great extent the ‘fibre’ test of our constitution. I’m in full agreement with a statement that says a time comes ‘when silence is betrayal…’ For me that time has come in relation to the issue  of electoral irregularities (as a backdrop in the 2012 presidential elections) and my knowledge of Nana Akufo- Addo‘s record on  peaceful and democratic means in resolving conflict. PRESIDENT MAHAMA, CALL YOUR SUPPORTERS TO ORDER

Very disturbing, violent events occurred at the vicinity of the Supreme Court today. Ordinary Ghanaians walking along the High Street, in front of the Supreme Court building, were attacked by an organised group of supporters of the National Democratic Congress with weapons, including canes, deliberately supplied to them.

Among the victims of today’s senseless attacks were hawkers, a pregnant woman, a teenage girl walking on the other side of the road who just happened to be wearing an NPP scarf. If it was not for the intervention of some of the police officers, the poor teenager would have been beaten to pulp. Also attacked was Nana Kofi Damoah, a young NPP activist, who was assaulted with sticks by a group of NDC supporters right at the entrance of the Court. It is obvious that this was a planned and orchestrated attack by NDC on innocent people perceived to be supporters or sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party. Read more…
