Akufo-Addo Resumes Hope Tour, Mourns Late Wulensi MP

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo has resumed his nationwide ‘tour to restore hope’ after a successful working trip outside the country.

On Sunday, the NPP flagbearer joined hundreds of mourners and sympathisers for the final funeral rites of the late Hon Alhaji Saani Iddi, former Member of Parliament for Wulensi.

In a tribute read by Nana Addo in memory of the late MP, he said “I am here as leader of my party’s delegation to express our solidarity to the family and loved ones of our late brother, Hon Alhaji Saani Iddi.”

He said “in 1996, when the NPP decided to contest parliamentary elections after the 1992 boycott, 61 of us were elected as MP’s on the NPP ticket. The late Alhaji Iddi and myself were part of that group.”

He remained our colleague all the way through even though in the last days we parted ways politically. Our party’s strong presence here is just a testimony to that.” Nana Addo said.

Nana Addo took the opportunity to extend the condolences of the entire membership of the NPP to the wife and children of the late MP.

Nana Addo observed that “all of us who had the opportunity of knowing him are touched and feel his loss acutely.”

He added: “He was a personal friend with whom I shared a lot of conversation with, particularly on the subject areas of politics in general and the forward movement of Northern Ghana and the entire country as a whole. He will be missed.”

In conclusion, Nana Addo said it was the prayer of the NPP, and indeed all Ghanaians, that “God gives him a peaceful place of abode until the last day of the resurrection when we shall all meet again.”

Nana Addo was accompanied by his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former vice president, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Wulensi, Thomas Ogaja, the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Tia and his team of Regional Executives, MP for Bimbila, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, Elders of the party in the Northern Region including Alhaji Aminu, Alhaji MND Jawula and founding member, Bugri Naabu.

The NPP donated GH¢1,000, a bull and two bags of rice to support the family.

Nana Addo also donated GH¢2,000 as his personal contribution to the family of the late Alhaji Saani Iddi.

Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to be in the Upper West Region on Monday to continue his ‘tour to restore hope’.
