Akufo-Addo Urges Government and ECOWAS to Rally behind Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for TOP World Bank Job

The New Patriotic Party and its Presidential Candidate have been closely monitoring the election for the next president of the World Bank.

We are pleased to note that the candidate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has received widespread support across the continent of Africa and beyond.

The world is facing one of its most complex financial and economic challenges which have brought instability in many hitherto stable economies.  The ongoing international financial and economic crisis has further exacerbated the already precarious financial and economic conditions in many African countries. This has repercussions for the long term development agenda of our continent.

For these reasons, we are particularly pleased with the candidature of Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, current Finance Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has an impeccable reputation for competence, determination and thoroughness.  Her record of more than twenty (20) years stint at the World Bank has won her international acclaim.

We will urge the Government of Ghana and the other leaders of ECOWAS and the African Union to rally behind her candidature.  Africa is dreaming to have her first African President of the World Bank.  Africa is dreaming to have her first black President of the World Bank.  Africa is dreaming of the first woman World Bank President.  This dream is possible.

Once again we urge the Government, the people of Ghana and the other leaders of the West African region and the continent of Africa to support the candidature of Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Finance Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

……signed……

Nana Akufo-Addo

NPP 2012 Presidential Candidate
